Beyoncé voiced Nala in The Lion King, the 2019 computer-animated remake.
Nala is a lioness who becomes Simba’s partner and queen of the Pride Lands. In the film, Beyoncé performs alongside Donald Glover, who voices Simba, and contributes several songs, including the original song “Spirit.”
The 2019 movie was directed by Jon Favreau and re-created the story and musical framework of Disney’s 1994 animated film using computer-generated imagery. Beyoncé’s casting attracted major attention because it united her pop-star profile with one of Disney’s most recognizable stories.
Nala is sometimes confused with Sarabi, Simba’s mother, or Kiara, Simba’s daughter from The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. Beyoncé played Nala in the 2019 film; she did not voice either of those other characters.
