What was Beyoncé’s first live-action feature film?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé’s first live-action feature film was Austin Powers in Goldmember. Released in 2002, the comedy was the third movie in the Austin Powers series and starred Mike Myers as the flamboyant secret agent Austin Powers and several other characters.

Beyoncé played Foxxy Cleopatra, an FBI agent and Austin Powers’s ally. The character is styled as a 1970s-inspired action heroine and contributes to the film’s parody of blaxploitation movies. Beyoncé also recorded “Work It Out,” the film’s lead single, which was released before her first solo album.

The film is sometimes confused with Carmen: A Hip Hopera, the 2001 MTV television film in which Beyoncé had a leading role. Carmen was an important acting credit, but Austin Powers in Goldmember was her first live-action theatrical feature. Beyoncé later appeared in films including The Fighting Temptations, Dreamgirls, Cadillac Records, and Obsessed.
