What was Beyoncé’s first feature film, released in 2002?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé’s first feature film was Austin Powers in Goldmember, released in 2002.

She played Foxxy Cleopatra, an FBI agent and Austin Powers’ ally, in the third film of the Austin Powers comedy series. The movie starred Mike Myers in multiple roles and was directed by Jay Roach. Beyoncé also contributed to the film’s soundtrack with the song “Work It Out.”

Austin Powers in Goldmember was released in July 2002 and became a major box-office success. Beyoncé’s performance introduced her to a broad film audience while she was still best known as a member of Destiny’s Child.

Her later acting roles included Carmen in Carmen: A Hip Hopera, Deena Jones in Dreamgirls, and a role in Obsessed. Dreamgirls is sometimes named as her film debut because it was a prominent starring role, but Austin Powers in Goldmember came earlier as her first feature-film appearance.
