Renaissance was Beyoncé’s 2022 dance-music album and the first act of a planned trilogy.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance draws heavily on house, disco, funk, dance-pop, and ballroom traditions. Beyoncé described it as the first act of a three-part project, making its “act” designation part of the album’s official framing rather than simply a marketing nickname.
The lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s eighth solo number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. Other songs connect the album to influential Black and queer dance-music traditions through samples, interpolations, and featured performances.
Renaissance received nine Grammy nominations and won four awards at the 65th ceremony. Its release was followed by the Renaissance World Tour in 2023. It should not be confused with The Gift, Beyoncé’s 2019 album connected to The Lion King.
