What two-letter motif forms the logo of Italian luxury fashion house Fendi?

The story behind the answer

The logo motif of Italian luxury fashion house Fendi is the Double F.

Karl Lagerfeld designed the logo in 1965, shortly after becoming Fendi’s creative director. The two reversed or mirrored Fs became a compact visual mark for the Roman house and were used across accessories, luggage and clothing. The letters are commonly interpreted as referring to “Fun Furs,” reflecting the importance of fur in Fendi’s business at the time.

Fendi was founded in Rome in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi as a fur and leather shop. Their five daughters later helped develop the company. Lagerfeld’s arrival brought a more modern approach to fur design and branding, while the Double F created a recognizable signature.

The motif is sometimes confused with logos using two Cs or interlocking Gs. Those belong to other fashion houses. Fendi also uses a wordmark, but the Double F remains its best-known monogram.
