Newcastle United versus Liverpool was scheduled to start at 16:30 BST in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
The match was played on Sunday, 23 August 2026, at St James’ Park. It was the final Sunday fixture listed in the opening Match Round and followed the two matches scheduled for 14:00 BST.
The fixture brought together Newcastle United and Liverpool, two clubs with major histories in English football. Liverpool’s visit to Newcastle was also one of the opening round’s most prominent matchups, after the season began with Arsenal versus Coventry City on the previous Friday.
The kickoff time is distinct from the Saturday evening slot of 17:30 BST and the Monday night time of 20:00 BST. In the official schedule, Newcastle versus Liverpool occupied the late Sunday-afternoon window.
