Newcastle United versus Liverpool was scheduled to kick off at 16:30 BST on Sunday 23 August 2026.
The match was the later Sunday fixture in the opening round, following the simultaneous 14:00 matches involving Manchester City, Bournemouth, Brighton and Aston Villa. It was played at St James’ Park in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The fixture also introduced new managerial eras for both clubs. Matthias Jaissle had recently been appointed Newcastle United’s head coach, while Andoni Iraola had taken charge of Liverpool before the season began.
Newcastle’s stadium was listed with a capacity of 52,729 for the season. The Premier League’s published schedule identified the match as a live Sky Sports fixture and placed it between the Sunday afternoon games and the Monday finale.
