What storage capacity did the standard PlayStation 5 solid-state drive provide?

The story behind the answer

The standard PlayStation 5 launched with an 825 GB custom solid-state drive.

Sony selected a capacity between the common 500 GB and 1 TB sizes, while designing the drive around extremely high data-transfer performance. The console’s custom SSD was a major part of its hardware pitch because it substantially reduced loading times compared with the mechanical hard drives used in earlier PlayStation generations.

The full 825 GB is not all available for game installations. The operating system and other system data occupy part of the drive, leaving users with less usable space. Games can also be moved to compatible external USB storage, although PS5 games must generally be played from internal or approved expansion storage.

Later PlayStation 5 revisions changed available storage. The PlayStation 5 Slim launched with a 1 TB SSD, so the 825 GB answer specifically describes the original standard PlayStation 5 model rather than every version sold under the PS5 name.
