Genesis says that Noah placed a window near the top of the Ark.
Genesis 6:16 instructs Noah to make a window for the Ark and to finish it to a cubit above. The verse also mentions the door at the Ark’s side and the three decks inside. Later, Noah opens the window when sending out the raven and the dove to assess the condition of the earth.
Translations differ in how they render the Hebrew term and the details of the opening, so “window” is the standard concise answer rather than a modern architectural label such as skylight. Genesis does not describe a large transparent roof, multiple portholes, or a chimney. The window’s narrative role becomes especially clear in Genesis 8, where it allows Noah to release birds while the Ark remains closed and the floodwaters recede.
