What sacrifice finally breaks the Owens curse in Practical Magic 2?

Frances Owens’s life finally breaks the Owens curse in Practical Magic 2. After the Book of Raven’s pages open, the family learns that a witch must willingly sacrifice her life to end Maria’s curse.

Frances, also known as Franny, chooses to make that sacrifice. She walks into the river while Jet’s spirit watches, completing the act that frees the Owens family from the curse that has followed its women for centuries.

This resolution differs from simply defeating an enemy through a spell. Sally, Gillian, and Kylie use blood-bond magic to destroy Tom, but Frances’s voluntary sacrifice is what breaks the older family curse itself.
