Metallica's Metallica received a 2× Diamond RIAA certification in 2025 for United States shipments.
The Recording Industry Association of America awards a Diamond certification for shipments of ten million album-equivalent units. A 2× Diamond certification therefore represents twenty million units under the RIAA's certification system. The album had already accumulated a long series of platinum awards before receiving this higher milestone.
Metallica's commercial success began immediately: it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, sold 598,000 copies in its first US week, and remained culturally visible through five charting singles. Its sales continued for decades, helped by the album's enduring presence in physical formats, digital sales, and streaming-era certification calculations.
The certification should not be confused with the album's reported SoundScan-era sales total or with certifications in other countries. RIAA awards concern the United States, while organizations such as ARIA, BPI, and Music Canada use their own national systems and thresholds.
