What platform was Rayman Legends originally developed for?

The story behind the answer

Rayman Legends was originally developed exclusively for the Wii U. Ubisoft designed its early version around the Wii U GamePad, whose touchscreen enabled asymmetric gameplay and direct interaction with the game world.

The GamePad allowed a player to control Murfy, an assisting character who could cut ropes, move platforms, manipulate objects, stun enemies, and help collect Lums. Other players could continue controlling Rayman and the other heroes on the television screen, creating a distinctive cooperative setup.

Rayman Legends was announced at E3 2012 as a Wii U title and was initially planned for the console’s launch window. Its release was delayed, first for additional polish and later so Ubisoft could launch versions for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, and PC at the same time.

Because the finished game appeared on many systems, players sometimes remember it as a multiplatform title from the beginning. Historically, however, the Wii U was its original development platform and the source of its signature GamePad features.
