What phrase is the LEGO Group’s official motto, traditionally translated into English?
Answer
Only the best is good enough
The LEGO Group’s official motto is “Only the best is good enough.”
The motto was adopted by Ole Kirk Christiansen, the Danish carpenter who founded the company, and it reflects the company’s emphasis on quality and careful workmanship. The phrase is commonly associated with the Danish wording “Det bedste er ikke for godt,” which conveys that the best standard should never be considered excessive.
The motto became part of LEGO’s corporate identity as the company moved from wooden toys to plastic construction products. It is often connected with the company’s strict approach to manufacturing, including the need for LEGO elements from different generations to remain compatible.
People sometimes mistake “Everything is awesome” for LEGO’s official motto because the phrase is prominent in The LEGO Movie. That song lyric belongs to the film’s fictional world; it is not the company’s traditional corporate motto.
