What number studio album by AC/DC is Power Up?

The story behind the answer

Power Up is AC/DC’s seventeenth studio album.

Released on 13 November 2020, Power Up followed Rock or Bust, which came out in 2014. The album restored a core lineup featuring vocalist Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams, alongside guitarists Angus Young and Stevie Young. It was AC/DC’s first studio album since the death of rhythm guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young.

The number refers to AC/DC’s studio-album sequence, not every release in the band’s catalogue. Soundtrack albums, live albums, compilations and differently configured versions of earlier records are counted separately. That distinction is why the answer is not based simply on the number of albums bearing AC/DC’s name.

Power Up was built partly from unused ideas and recordings developed by Angus and Malcolm Young. Malcolm received posthumous songwriting credit on every track, and the album was dedicated to him. It reached number one in 21 countries, making the seventeenth-album milestone a major late-career success.
