What nation is Toph from?

Toph is from the Earth Kingdom. Born Toph Beifong, she comes from a wealthy and influential Earth Kingdom family, although her parents keep her sheltered because she is blind. Their protectiveness makes them underestimate her abilities.

Toph secretly learns earthbending from badgermoles, the creatures traditionally credited with teaching humans the art. She later competes as the undefeated “Blind Bandit” in Earth Rumble tournaments before meeting Aang and joining his group as his earthbending teacher.

Her Earth Kingdom identity is sometimes confused with her bending ability. Earthbending describes the element she controls; the Earth Kingdom is the nation and political culture she belongs to. Toph eventually becomes famous for inventing metalbending, founding a metalbending academy, and helping establish Republic City’s police force.
