Guru Angad Dev was given the name Lehna at birth.

Born in 1504 in Harike, in the Punjab region, Lehna became a follower of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru. He served Guru Nanak with devotion and was chosen as his successor in 1539. Guru Nanak then gave him the name Angad, meaning part of oneself or limb, expressing their spiritual closeness.

As the second Sikh Guru, Angad Dev helped preserve and organize the community founded by Guru Nanak. He is especially associated with standardizing and promoting the Gurmukhi script. The script made Sikh teachings more accessible to Punjabi speakers and later became the principal script of Sikh scripture.
