Prada gives its distinctive nylon fabric the name Pocono.
Pocono is a lightweight, durable nylon associated with Prada’s bags, backpacks and clothing. The material helped the Italian fashion house redefine nylon as a luxury-fashion fabric rather than treating it only as an industrial or utilitarian textile.
Miuccia Prada began using nylon prominently in the late 1970s and introduced the black nylon backpack that became one of the brand’s defining products. The fabric’s water resistance, low weight and clean surface suited the minimalist design language that became central to Prada.
Pocono is often confused with generic descriptions such as “Prada nylon,” which identify the broader material family but not the house’s specific name. It is also unrelated to Goyardine, the coated canvas associated with Goyard, and gabardine, the tightly woven fabric famously used by Burberry.
