What name does Genesis give the mountains where Noah's Ark came to rest?

The story behind the answer

Genesis says Noah's Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 uses a plural expression rather than naming one specific summit. The phrase is commonly associated with the region historically known as Urartu, a kingdom centered around parts of modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and nearby areas. The biblical wording does not identify Mount Ararat itself as the landing point.

Later tradition connected the story with the prominent volcanic peak now called Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey. That mountain became especially famous in European and modern popular culture as a supposed ark site, and many expeditions have searched the surrounding region.

The distinction between the biblical mountains and the single modern peak matters. Genesis supplies a regional designation, while the exact location remains uncertain and has not been established by accepted archaeological evidence.
