Sony named the original motion-sensing PlayStation 3 controller without vibration the SIXAXIS.
The SIXAXIS accompanied the PlayStation 3 at launch in 2006. Its name refers to the controller’s ability to detect movement across six axes, using three-axis linear acceleration and three-axis rotational sensing. It connected to the console wirelessly through Bluetooth and could also recharge through a USB cable.
A common mix-up is confusing the SIXAXIS with the later DualShock 3. The DualShock 3 retained the motion-sensing features but added rumble feedback. PlayStation Move was a later motion-control system using a light-up controller and camera, so it is not the name of the original PS3 gamepad.
