Beyoncé’s historic 2018 Coachella performance became widely associated with the name Beychella.
She headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2018, becoming the first Black woman to headline the festival. The performance was built around a large marching-band and collegiate-style visual concept, with dancers, musicians, and elaborate staging.
The set included appearances by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, reconnecting Beyoncé with Destiny’s Child. It also featured songs from across her career and highlighted Black musical traditions, including historically Black college and university band culture. The performance was later released as the concert film and live album Homecoming.
“Beychella” is an informal media and fan nickname, not the official name of the festival. The event itself remained Coachella, while the nickname combines Beyoncé’s name with the festival’s title and refers specifically to her 2018 headlining performances.
