What mountain is called the Ark’s resting place in the Quran?

The story behind the answer

In the Quran, Mount Judi is named as the Ark’s resting place.

Quran 11:44 says that the Ark came to rest upon al-Judi after the floodwaters subsided. The passage belongs to the Quran’s account of Noah, known in Arabic as Nuh, and differs in wording and emphasis from the Genesis narrative.

Mount Ararat is often associated with Noah’s Ark in Jewish, Christian, and popular tradition because Genesis refers to the “mountains of Ararat.” That phrase is not the same as the Quran’s explicit reference to Mount Judi. Confusing the two is one of the most common cross-text mix-ups about the story.

Mount Judi is generally identified with a mountainous area in southeastern Turkey near the borders of Iraq and Syria, although exact historical identifications have been debated. The Quranic answer is therefore Mount Judi, not Mount Ararat.
