What measurements does Genesis give for Noah's Ark's length, width, and height?

The story behind the answer

Genesis gives Noah’s Ark measurements of 300 by 50 by 30 cubits for length, width, and height.

Genesis 6:15 provides the dimensions in that order: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. The following verse describes three decks, a window, and a side door. Together, these details make the ark one of the Bible’s most specifically described vessels.

A cubit was an ancient unit based broadly on the length of a forearm, so its exact modern equivalent varied by culture and period. For that reason, converting the ark into metres or feet produces estimates rather than a single certain figure. The biblical proportions themselves are clearer than the modern conversion.

The dimensions also distinguish the ark from ordinary small boats in popular imagination. Modern reconstructions use different cubit assumptions and construction methods, so their final measurements can differ even when they follow Genesis’s stated ratios.
