What masked alter ego does Zuko use while wielding double broadswords?

The story behind the answer

Zuko uses the masked alter ego Blue Spirit while wielding double broadswords. The disguise first appears in Book One, when Zuko infiltrates Zhao’s fortress and rescues Aang from captivity. His blue mask hides his identity, allowing him to act outside the role of the banished Fire Nation prince.

The Blue Spirit is notable because Zuko relies on swordsmanship rather than firebending. His paired broadswords make him a fast and distinctive fighter, and the persona briefly creates uncertainty about whether the mysterious rescuer is friend or enemy. Zuko’s decision to save Aang is also morally complicated: he frees the Avatar, but initially intends to capture him himself.

A common mix-up is confusing the Blue Spirit with Zuko’s later identity as a member of Team Avatar. The Blue Spirit is not a separate character, and it is not associated with the Yuyan Archers or Combustion Man. Zuko eventually abandons the disguise as his loyalties and understanding of honor change.
