What kind of multiplayer does Halo: Campaign Evolved support throughout its story?

The story behind the answer

Halo: Campaign Evolved supports cooperative multiplayer throughout its story.

The remake focuses on the campaign of Halo: Combat Evolved rather than reproducing that game's competitive multiplayer suite. Players can experience the full adventure together, fighting the Covenant, Flood, and Sentinels while progressing through the same broad story as the solo Master Chief campaign.

Its cooperative design is more expansive than the original Xbox release. Campaign Evolved supports online co-op for up to four players, with cross-platform play and cross-progression across its supported systems. Console players also have local two-player split-screen, preserving one of Halo's most recognizable social traditions.

A common mix-up is confusing cooperative multiplayer with modes such as deathmatch or Capture the Flag. Those are competitive formats, while Campaign Evolved is specifically built around shared campaign progression. Competitive multiplayer is excluded, even though the original Halo's multiplayer legacy remains available through other releases such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
