Coco asks Crash to get a battery for her laptop in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back.
The request appears near the beginning of the 1997 PlayStation sequel. Coco’s laptop battery has run out, so she sends Crash to retrieve a replacement. Before he can complete that mundane errand, Doctor Neo Cortex teleports him to the Warp Room and launches the game’s main adventure.
That joke is easy to remember because the battery errand becomes the accidental gateway to Crash’s larger mission. Cortex persuades Crash to collect crystals, claiming they can protect Earth from an approaching planetary alignment. Coco later interferes with Cortex’s plan and warns Crash not to trust him.
The battery is sometimes confused with the crystals and gems that dominate the game’s objectives. Those are collectible plot items, while the battery is simply Coco’s opening request. Crash Bandicoot 2 was developed by Naughty Dog and released in North America on November 6, 1997.
