What is X’s live-audio conversation feature called?

The story behind the answer

X’s live-audio conversation feature is called Spaces.

Twitter introduced Spaces as a way for users to host or join live audio conversations. The feature was developed during the growth of social-audio services and became available to more users during 2021. A Space can include a host, speakers, and listeners participating in a live discussion.

Unlike an ordinary post, a Space is an event taking place in real time. Participants can listen while speakers talk, and hosts control who is allowed to speak. The format has been used for interviews, commentary, community discussions, and live reactions.

The feature retained the name Spaces after Twitter adopted the name X. It should not be confused with direct messages, which are private text conversations, or with recorded video posts, which are consumed asynchronously.
