What is the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, according to the standard geographic measurement?

The story behind the answer

Angel Falls is the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a total height of 979 metres.

The waterfall is in Venezuela’s Canaima National Park and drops from the Auyán-tepui, one of the region’s distinctive table-top mountains. Its uninterrupted main drop is about 807 metres, followed by steep cascades and smaller drops.

The waterfall’s Indigenous Pemon name is Kerepakupai Merú, commonly translated as “waterfall of the deepest place.” The English name comes from American aviator Jimmy Angel, whose aircraft landed on the summit of Auyán-tepui in 1937. The aircraft remained there for decades before being removed.

Angel Falls is not the widest or most powerful waterfall. Victoria Falls is famous for its enormous width and curtain of water, while Iguazu Falls consists of a large system of separate cascades.
