What is the United States release date of Spyro: Year of the Dragon?

The story behind the answer

What is the United States release date of Spyro: Year of the Dragon? It was released in the United States on October 10, 2000.

Year of the Dragon is the third and final Spyro game developed by Insomniac Games for the original PlayStation. Its story begins during the dragons’ celebration of a recurring Year of the Dragon, when newly hatched dragon eggs arrive. The Sorceress and her Rhynoc forces steal the eggs, sending Spyro, Sparx, and Hunter into the Forgotten Realms to recover them.

The October 10 release date marks the North American launch; dates can differ by region and by later re-releases. The game reached players near the end of the original PlayStation’s life, while Sony was already promoting the PlayStation 2. Even so, it received strong reviews and sold more than three million copies worldwide.

Year of the Dragon expanded the series with playable companions, additional minigames, and more varied challenges. It was later remade with the first two games in the 2018 Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
