What is the track length of the Anna Meares Velodrome?

The story behind the answer

The Anna Meares Velodrome has a 250-metre track.

The indoor velodrome is located at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler, a suburb of Brisbane, Queensland. Its oval track is built for track cycling, with two straights joined by steeply banked curves. The timber surface and banking help riders maintain speed while racing close to the inner measurement line.

The venue opened in 2016 and was built as a competition facility for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. It is named for Anna Meares, one of Australia’s most successful track cyclists and an Olympic champion. The velodrome is also associated with Brisbane’s future role as a host city for the 2032 Summer Olympics.

A 250-metre lap is the modern international standard for many indoor velodromes, but other track lengths exist. Older and outdoor venues may measure 333.33, 400 or 500 metres, which explains why those figures can seem plausible. The BMX track at the same sports complex is a separate facility and should not be confused with the velodrome.
