In UCI BMX racing, what is the professional class called?

The story behind the answer

In UCI BMX racing, the professional class is called Elite.

The UCI structure uses age-based and professional divisions rather than the Novice, Intermediate and Expert progression familiar from some national BMX systems. At the senior professional level, riders compete in Elite Men and Elite Women categories. UCI competition also includes Junior and Under-23 divisions.

Cruiser is not the professional class. It describes a BMX bicycle category using larger wheels, commonly 24 inches, and related race divisions. Novice, Intermediate and Expert are proficiency classifications used by certain national or regional sanctioning bodies, especially in amateur racing, rather than the UCI’s senior professional label.

Elite BMX racing is conducted on short tracks featuring steep start hills, banked turns, rollers and jumps. The sport became an Olympic discipline in 2008, while the UCI World Championships and World Cup remain major events outside the Olympic competition.
