Cars 2 is the title of the second film in Pixar's Cars series.
Released in 2011, Cars 2 shifts the focus from Lightning McQueen's personal growth to an international racing adventure. McQueen enters the World Grand Prix, while Mater becomes involved in a spy story involving secret agents, advanced technology, and a criminal plot.
John Lasseter and Brad Lewis directed the film. It expands the fictional world beyond Radiator Springs, visiting locations such as Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London.
Cars 2 was the first Pixar feature to receive a direct sequel to an earlier Pixar film, although Toy Story 2 had already continued the Toy Story story. The film's espionage style and broader global setting make it notably different from the small-town road-movie structure of the original Cars.
