What is the name of the demolition derby held in Pixar’s Cars 3?

The demolition derby held in Pixar’s Cars 3 is called The Crazy 8.

Lightning McQueen enters the event as part of a training plan designed to prepare him for modern racing. The competition takes place on a rough dirt track and features heavily modified vehicles smashing into one another while attempting to remain active.

Cruz Ramirez participates in the event and demonstrates skills that McQueen had not fully recognized. Her experience there becomes an important step in their changing relationship, because McQueen starts to see her as a capable racer rather than only a trainer.

The name refers to the figure-eight layout of the course, not to the number of competitors. The sequence also introduces Miss Fritter, a school bus who becomes one of the film’s memorable demolition-derby characters.
