Christopher Nolan’s 1998 crime thriller starring Jeremy Theobald is titled Following.
Following is Nolan’s first feature film. It follows an unnamed young writer who begins following strangers through London and becomes involved with a burglar known as Cobb. Jeremy Theobald plays the young writer, while Alex Haw plays Cobb.
Nolan made the film on a very small budget, shooting mainly on weekends over approximately a year. Because the production had limited resources, the cast and crew often worked around their regular jobs. Nolan also served as writer, director, cinematographer, editor, and producer.
Following is often confused with Memento, Nolan’s first major international breakthrough. Memento was released in 2000 and features Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby. The similarly spare, non-linear storytelling in both films reflects an important early pattern in Nolan’s filmmaking.
