Renaissance is the title of Beyoncé’s 2022 studio album that began her trilogy.
Beyoncé released Renaissance on July 29, 2022. It is her seventh studio album and the first part of a planned three-act project. The album centers on dance-oriented sounds, including house, disco, funk, and dance-pop, and it incorporates samples and references to earlier Black and queer club-music traditions.
The lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo US Billboard Hot 100 number-one single since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008. Other tracks include “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Virgo’s Groove.”
Renaissance won Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The trilogy’s second act, Cowboy Carter, was released in 2024. That later album is sometimes mistakenly identified as the beginning of the project, but Renaissance is the first act.
