Renaissance is the title of Beyoncé’s 2022 album exploring house and dance music.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album. It was presented as the first act of a planned three-part project and marked her return to a solo studio album after Lemonade in 2016.
The album draws heavily on house, disco, funk, dance-pop, and ballroom traditions. Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008.
Renaissance also credits and references many influential musicians and producers, including Robin S, Donna Summer, Grace Jones, and Right Said Fred through samples or interpolations. The album’s dance-floor focus and historical sampling connect contemporary pop with Black and queer club cultures.
