Beyoncé’s 2022 album that begins her Renaissance trilogy is titled Renaissance. Released on July 29, 2022, it was described as the first act of a planned three-act project.
Renaissance is strongly rooted in dance, house, disco, funk, and electronic music. Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008. The album’s title and sound connect contemporary pop with Black and queer dance-music traditions.
The project followed 2016’s Lemonade and preceded Cowboy Carter, which Beyoncé presented as the second act and released in 2024. The album is sometimes called Act I, but “Renaissance” is the canonical title of the record itself. It won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at the 65th Grammy Awards in 2023.
