Beyoncé’s 2022 dance- and house-influenced album is Renaissance.
Renaissance was released on July 29, 2022, as Beyoncé’s seventh studio album. Its sound draws on house, disco, funk, dance-pop, and other club traditions. The album was conceived as the first act of a planned trilogy, but the question concerns the album’s title rather than the number of projects in that plan.
The lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s eighth number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo lead artist. Other songs include “Alien Superstar,” “Cuff It,” and “Virgo’s Groove.” The album’s credits and samples connect it to a long history of Black and queer dance-music culture.
Renaissance won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at the 2023 ceremony. It is distinct from The Gift, Beyoncé’s 2019 soundtrack album connected with The Lion King.
