Beyoncé's 2013 surprise visual album is titled Beyoncé.
Beyoncé was released without advance promotion on December 13, 2013, through Columbia Records and Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment. The album arrived digitally on the iTunes Store with fourteen songs and seventeen accompanying videos, making the project a defining example of the surprise-release strategy in popular music.
“Drunk in Love,” featuring Jay-Z, was one of the album's prominent singles. Other songs include “Pretty Hurts,” “Partition,” and “Flawless.” The visual component allowed each track to be paired with a film, while the album's themes included intimacy, feminism, motherhood, and celebrity.
The self-titled album is sometimes called the “visual album” in shorthand, but it should not be confused with Lemonade, Beyoncé's later 2016 visual album. Its official title is simply Beyoncé, matching the artist's name.
