Beyoncé’s 2011 studio album named after a number is 4.
The album is her fourth solo studio album and was released on June 24, 2011. Its title has several personal associations: Beyoncé was born on September 4, her mother Tina Knowles was born on January 4, and Beyoncé married Jay-Z on April 4. The number also appears in the couple’s shared symbolism.
4 includes the singles “Run the World (Girls),” “Best Thing I Never Had,” “1+1,” and “Countdown.” Its sound draws on R&B, soul, funk, pop, and adult-contemporary influences rather than following only the dance-pop style of some earlier releases.
The album title is often confused with Beyoncé’s 2003 debut, Dangerously in Love, or with B’Day, her 2006 second album. 4 is the concise title, written as the numeral rather than the word “Four.”
