What is the title character Rayman famously missing?

The story behind the answer

Rayman is famously missing limbs. His head, hands, feet and torso appear as separate floating parts, with no visible arms or legs connecting them.

The unusual design began during development of the original Rayman, released in 1995. Technical limitations made fully animated limbs difficult to render, so creator Michel Ancel turned the limitation into a defining visual feature. Rayman’s hands can throw punches from a distance, while his hair acts like a helicopter rotor to slow his descent.

A common mix-up is to say Rayman has no hands or feet. He does have both, but they are not attached by visible limbs. His lack of limbs is therefore different from lacking individual body parts, and it became one of the character’s most recognizable traits.
