What is the tallest hotel in the world?

The story behind the answer

The Gevora Hotel is the tallest hotel in the world.

Located on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Gevora rises 356.33 meters (1,169 feet) and has 75 above-ground floors. It was developed by Al Attar Properties and completed in 2017, opening as a hotel in 2018. Its distinctive gold-colored exterior and traditional-style pointed crown help distinguish it from Dubai’s many supertall buildings.

Gevora took the title from the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai by roughly one meter. A common mix-up involves the Rose Rayhaan by Rotana, another Dubai hotel that reaches about 333 meters and was previously the tallest hotel. The record applies to a building used exclusively as a hotel; it does not mean the highest hotel rooms in the world. Those are located in the Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, which occupies upper floors of the much taller International Commerce Centre.
