What is the surname of the two founding brothers of AC/DC?

The story behind the answer

The surname of AC/DC's two founding brothers is Young: Malcolm Young and Angus Young. The brothers formed AC/DC in Sydney in 1973, with Malcolm playing rhythm guitar and Angus taking the lead-guitar role.

Malcolm and Angus were born in Glasgow, Scotland, but their family moved to Sydney in 1963. Their Australian upbringing connected them with the local music scene, and both had already gained experience in the Marcus Hook Roll Band before AC/DC began. Their older brother George Young later became an important producer and mentor.

The Young brothers shaped AC/DC's core musical identity. Malcolm supplied the tightly locked rhythm-guitar foundation, while Angus became famous for his energetic lead playing, school-uniform stage clothes and duckwalk. The brothers also helped choose the band's name after their sister Margaret noticed “AC/DC” on a sewing machine.

Although AC/DC has had many singers, bassists and drummers, the Young name remains central to its history. Angus continued with the band after Malcolm retired because of illness, and Malcolm's nephew Stevie later took over the rhythm-guitar position.
