Mool Mantar literally means “root mantra” or “ ಮೂಲ statement,” and it functions as a concise theological foundation rather than a complete creed in the style of some other religions. It is followed in the scripture by Japji Sahib, a major composition associated with Guru Nanak. The Mool Mantar is often recited in Sikh prayer and is frequently encountered in discussions of Sikh belief, but it should not be confused with the whole Guru Granth Sahib or with Ardas, the Sikh supplication.
