What is the official LEGO name for its collectible character figures sold in blind bags?

The story behind the answer

LEGO’s official name for its blind-bag character range is Collectible Minifigures.

The Collectible Minifigures line consists of individually packaged LEGO minifigures sold in sealed bags or boxes. Each series contains multiple designs, often including original characters, historical figures, animals, seasonal subjects and licensed characters. Buyers traditionally could not see the exact figure before opening the package, which created a collecting element.

The range began in 2010 and is commonly abbreviated as CMF by collectors. Individual series may have a number, a licensed title or a special theme, but “Collectible Minifigures” is the overarching product-line name.

These products are related to, but distinct from, minifigures included in ordinary LEGO sets. BrickHeadz are larger brick-built display figures, while Collectible Minifigures use the classic articulated minifigure format. Blind packaging also does not guarantee that every figure in a series will be equally common.
