What is the Nintendo DS port of Rayman 2 called?
Answer
Rayman DS
Answer
Rayman DS
The Nintendo DS port of Rayman 2 is called Rayman DS. It was released in 2005 and is primarily a port of the Nintendo 64 version of Rayman 2: The Great Escape.
Rayman DS carries the original 3D platforming adventure to Nintendo’s dual-screen handheld. The game retains Rayman’s fight against Admiral Razorbeard’s robotic pirate army, along with exploration, combat, puzzle-solving, cage rescues, and the collection of Yellow Lums. The lower touchscreen could be used for certain control functions, including a virtual control interface.
Because Rayman 2 appeared on many systems, its titles are easy to mix up. Rayman Revolution refers to the expanded PlayStation 2 edition, while Rayman 3D is the Nintendo 3DS version, based largely on the Dreamcast edition. Rayman Advance is instead a Game Boy Advance adaptation of the original Rayman, not Rayman 2.
Rayman DS also illustrates how different ports could vary technically. The Nintendo 64 source version was adapted to Nintendo DS hardware, and contemporary reviews often noted graphical compromises and camera issues. Nevertheless, Rayman DS remains the canonical name of the DS release.
