Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a prequel to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
Released in 2011 as a PlayStation Vita launch title, Golden Abyss follows Nathan Drake before the events of Naughty Dog's first Uncharted game. Drake investigates the lost city of Quivira in Panama alongside treasure hunter Marisa Chase, while facing rival adventurers and warlord Roberto Guerro.
The game is a spin-off developed by Bend Studio rather than Naughty Dog, although Naughty Dog supervised the project and series writer Amy Hennig reviewed its script. It is sometimes mistaken for a remake or a direct sequel because it uses the same characters, action-adventure structure, and cinematic style as the console games. It is neither: its story is an original earlier adventure that expands Drake's history before his search for El Dorado in Drake's Fortune.
