Xbox Game Pass is Xbox's subscription service that launched in 2017 with a library of downloadable games.
Microsoft introduced Game Pass for Xbox One on June 1, 2017. Subscribers could download and play a rotating catalog of games instead of purchasing every included title separately. The service later expanded to PC and cloud streaming through different membership options.
Game Pass is not the same as Xbox Live Gold, which historically focused on online multiplayer and monthly games. The catalog changes over time, and first-party Xbox titles have often been added on their release day. Its modern plans and branding have evolved since the original console-only launch.
