Twitter’s feature for adding a post to another post is called Quote Tweet.
A Quote Tweet republishes an existing post while giving the user space to add their own text above it. This differs from a standard retweet, which shares the original post without an added written comment. Quote Tweets became a common way to provide reactions, context, criticism, or commentary while keeping the original post visible.
Twitter introduced the modern quote-tweet function in 2015. Before that, users often manually copied a link or used older conventions to combine another person’s post with their own words. The built-in feature made attribution and navigation easier.
After Twitter became X, the interface increasingly used “repost” terminology, and some versions displayed “Quote” or “Quote post.” The underlying action remains the same: a user shares an existing post and attaches their own commentary.
