What is the name of the villain in "The Lion King"?

The story behind the answer

The villain in “The Lion King” is Scar.

Scar is the main antagonist of Disney’s 1994 animated film The Lion King. He is Mufasa’s younger brother and Simba’s uncle. Because Simba’s birth makes the cub heir to the throne, Scar loses his position in the succession and begins plotting to seize power for himself.

Scar allies with the hyenas and engineers the wildebeest stampede that kills Mufasa. He then convinces Simba that he caused his father’s death, driving the young lion into exile. Scar becomes king of the Pride Lands, but his rule brings disorder and famine because he allows the hyenas to overrun the kingdom.

The character draws loosely on King Claudius from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the play that also inspired the film’s broad story structure. His name refers to the prominent scar over his eye. Jeremy Irons provides Scar’s speaking voice in the 1994 film, while Jim Cummings performs the character’s singing voice.
