What is the name of the villain in Cars?

The villain in Cars is Chick Hicks. He is Lightning McQueen's arrogant rival in the Piston Cup racing world and is recognizable by his green paint, racing number 86, and Hostile Takeover Bank sponsorship.

Chick represents winning without sportsmanship. He repeatedly uses dirty tactics to gain position, including deliberately causing The King to crash during the final race. Although he wins the race, the crowd and media reject him because his victory comes through unsportsmanlike behavior rather than fair competition.

Viewers sometimes confuse Chick Hicks with The King, who is an experienced champion and one of the film's major racers, or with Doc Hudson, McQueen's mentor. Mater is also an important character, but he is Lightning's loyal friend and has no villainous role.

Chick's design was inspired by a 1987 Buick Regal Grand National, giving him the squared-off look of a classic American stock car. He later returns in Cars 3 as the host of Chick's Picks on Racing Sports Network, where he continues mocking McQueen.
